In the words of my operatic heroine Maria Callas "I will, I can and I must." Of course that was in reference to her archenemy operatic soprano Renata Tebaldi. In my case those words are in indication to my All State Audition tomorrow. For many it is the scariest moment of life and for years it haunted me as well. Since my 7th grade year I tirelessly studied sight singing desperate to make my choir teacher happy and the admittance board at Conservatory happy meeting their expectations of a good singer. Sight Singing, the hardest component is what had failed me so many times before aside from my senile pianist getting in an argument with my judge over whether he wished to play my G scale or not. Of course that is in the past. I now have a responsibility to my art that I can withhold. I have the voice, talent and knowledge to succeed in my goal. Last year I aced every component of the audition with the exception of sight singing. Without that 20pts I could not even be considered for the alternate list. But with that past 80pts that I did recieve I know I can do it again, bigger, better. Dr. Ornealas wont know what hit her when I sing. It will wow her as it has everyone wondering what could possibly have altered my voice so completely in one year. "I will, I can, and I must..."
